Have you tried “Peeled Snacks” ?
The fruit is organic.
Every product is gluten-free.
They are just fruit, with no added sugar, oil or any other ingredient.
They do not have sulfites.
They donate 10% of sales from the American Farms Sampler pack to the American Farmland Trust.
They are available at several locations, including Starbucks, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Whole Foods and online.
The Cherry-go-Round and the Apricot-a-Lot are the only two snacks that are considered raw because the fruits are sun-dried. Other Peeled Snacks are not raw because the fruit is heated to temperatures of 125 degrees or higher, which is above the 118 degree requirement for raw food diets.
They are mainly packaged in single-serving (1.23 oz) or two-serving size (2.8 oz.) packages, so lots of extra waste for the environment. They do have one variety in a one-pound bag. Hopefully more people will request them to package in the larger quantities.
Pro and Con:
On 4-19-12 the Peeled Snack company reports the following places where each fruit comes from:
Apple-2-the-core: USA or Argentina
Raisin Expectations: USA
Paradise Found: Mexico
Farmers Market Trio: USA, Argentina, Chile and/or Uzbekistan
GoFigureFig: USA and Turkey
Cherry-go-Round:USA or Uzbekistan
I wish more of their fruits were from the US. However, they did say that due to low standards in food regulation, they never purchase fruit from China.
